09-19-18 Message from the Principal

Just a reminder that school hours for elementary schools changed this year to 8:45 – 3:20. Student drop-off begins at 8:30 and dismissal is promptly at 3:20. Students should not be picked up later than 3:20. If an emergency arises and you are going to be late, please contact the office. Dismissal time is a very busy time, please make sure to communicate any dismissal changes in the form of a note or email at the start of the day. In the rare event that dismissal plans change during the school day, please make every effort to call the school prior to noon so we can communicate these changes with your child and his/her teachers.

Each year at Oakdale we order school t-shirts for the kids to wear during assemblies, in house field trips, field day, and various other times through the year. Please consider donating a portion of the cost by completing the attached form and sending it in with your child as soon as you can.

We are collecting Box Tops again this year so feel free to send them in to the school with your kids anytime. Our first PTO meeting will be Wednesday, September 19th, from 6:30-7:30, and we would love for you to check us out. 09.05.18 Message from the Principal

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. This is our first edition of the weekly electronic newsletter, which is sent home on Wednesdays. In the welcome back letter sent to families over the summer a number of new staff members were introduced. It is my pleasure to also welcome our new School Psychologist, Mrs. Di Garbo, to Oakdale School. She had been a School Psychologist in Montville in the past and is excited to be returning. Here is some important information:

Open House: Wed., 9/12, 5:15-6:15 p.m. Students are welcome to attend with their families to give a tour of the school and a visit to the classroom.

 Our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal is now being supervised by teachers (it had previously been supervised by monitors). This is a new responsibility for many of our staff members and they are diligently learning procedures in these first few weeks. There is one item I would like to address in regards to parent drop-off in the morning. For safety reasons, we ask that students only exit from the passenger side of the vehicle during Morning Arrival. If you are unable to drop off from the passenger side we ask that you park your car and walk your child to the front of the building. Adults should not be getting out of the car to let students out of the driver side of the car as it holds up the flow of traffic and poses a safety risk as students walk between cars. We appreciate your cooperation with this procedure.

Summer Reading Logs are due to the classroom teacher by Friday, September 7th.

PTO News We can't wait to see you all at the Open House! Come by the PTO table in the cafeteria on your way out to see what the PTO does for the school and how you can help us. We are collecting Box Tops again this year so feel free to send them in to the school with your kids anytime. Our first PTO meeting will be Wednesday, September 19th , from 6:30-7:30, and we would love for you to check us out. Stay tuned soon for more information regarding Fall Fitness Day, which is the largest fundraiser of the school year where 100% of the money raised goes to the school.
