A Message from the Principal

Mr. Gregory Gwudz

Welcome to Leonard J. Tyl Middle School, we are thrilled you are here!  Middle school is such an important and exciting time for students as they transition from the nurturing environment of elementary school to the rigors of high school.   Our caring and talented staff at Tyl work tirelessly to help meet the needs of all students during these important years.

Tyl’s core values are centered on Respect, Responsibility, Pride and Safety- together those values encompass the Tyl Way.  These values, coupled with a commitment to a strong partnership with you as parents/guardians, as well as the entire Montville community, help to ensure our students grow into well rounded, independent and responsible citizens.

As a Montville graduate, the opportunity to lead an amazing school like Tyl, in such a caring and supportive community,  is something that gives me great pride.

On behalf of the Tyl Middle School administration, faculty, and staff, we look forward to working with you.

Greg Gwudz

Foster meaningful collaboration for the promotion of academic, ethical, social, emotional, and physical development of each child.

Provide a positive, orderly environment to ensure safety for all.

Model, guide, and support positive decision-making skills.

About Us

Please bring your photo ID when visiting Oakdale School.

Oakdale Elementary School opened in 1964. Renovations and additions were completed in 2007. Oakdale School is one of three elementary schools in the Town of Montville. There are 358 students at Oakdale. That number includes our preschool students as Oakdale also hosts the Montville Integrated Preschool for our district. Our primary goal of education is the whole child as seen through our curriculum and activities at Oakdale School. Educational programs are brought into the school, which include Mystic Aquarium and Demos R Us.

There are four school rules: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Build Community.

Staff and students welcome community into the school with volunteer opportunities and the annual Giving Tree. Students give back through an annual nonperishable food drive and have conducted other community care events such as cards sent to military personnel serving overseas, collecting of cold weather essential items, and United Way personal care item drives.

Students are offered a variety of after school activities such as literacy and math clubs and enrichment activities. Each grade level takes a turn hosting a "Town Meeting" that is attended by the entire school. The Oakdale Community Club (The OCC) supports the mission of Oakdale Elementary School and works to involve the students in activities that have a positive impact on the school and the community.
