NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH PROGRAM

Enjoy a balanced meal!

The Montville School System participates in the National School Breakfast & Lunch Program which is federal-ly subsidized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and regulated on a state level by the State Department of Education. The program is committed to provid-ing nutritious breakfasts and lunches to school chil-dren at a reasonable price. Important considerations used in designing and preparing meals include the USDA's Dietary Guidelines for Ameri-cans which recommend reducing fat, increasing fiber, and moder-ating the consumption of salt and sugar. The food is served by cooks and cook/managers that are certified by the state as safe food handlers.

Hot and cold lunch choices are offered at all levels (1st-12th grade). A variety of a la carte selections is also offered at the middle and high school levels. Breakfast is served at Oakdale School, the middle school, and high school. Menus are sent home monthly with the elementary and middle school students and are also published in Sunday's Norwich Bulletin. Menus are also available on the web at www.montvilleschools.org/foodservices. Students contribute to menu planning with the food services director.

Lunch tickets may be purchased on the first day of each school week in the elementary schools. Middle and high school offer prepaid meals and cash sales. Lunches are $1.50 at the elementary schools and $1.75 at the middle school and high school. Break-fasts are $.75 at Oakdale School, $.90 at the middle school and $.90 at the high school. Lunches and breakfasts are served free or at a reduced price to children who meet income eligibility requirements. At the beginning of each school year, application forms to determine eligibility are sent home. To apply for Free or Reduced meals, house-holds must fill out the application and return it to the school. Additional forms are available at the principal's office at each school. Applications are accepted throughout the year.
