ASSESSMENT PROGRAM

Notification and Request for Exception

All parents will be notified by letter at the beginning of each school year of standardized group tests to be administered during the course of the school year. Parents will be encouraged, in this communication, to express any concerns with regard to this testing to the building principal.

Principals should schedule conferences with parents to discuss their concerns. If any parent, after having conferred with the building principal, still objects to his/her child taking any of these standard-ized tests, the parents must submit these objections and the reasons for them in writing to the principal. The principal will then act to either uphold or deny the parent's objections, in writing, with the reasons for such decision. Decisions of the principal may be appealed to the superintendent and the Board of Education in that order. Each appeal must be made within seven (7) calendar days of the receipt of the previous decision. In each case a meeting will be scheduled within seven (7) days and a written decision rendered within five (5) days.

Communication of Results of Testing

At the high school and middle school, the results of all standardized testing and Connecticut State Mastery Testing will be sent home to the parents, through the students, on the appropriate forms. Parents will be encouraged to schedule conferences with their child(ren)'s counselor(s) to discuss the results of these tests.

In the elementary schools, individual reports of the results of the Metropolitan Achievement Test will be transmitted to the parents. Conferences on the results of this testing may be held at parent or teacher request. Otis Lennon School Ability Test scores are available to parents upon request.

Test results become part of the student's school record and, as such, are subject to the provisions of the policy on student records.
