MHS HUNGER GAMES

The annual MHS Hunger Games are back! Get ready for our spring pep rally on May 13th. Where tributes will battle to defend their districts and be crowned victor. Entries will be sold during lunch waves this Thursday. Enter your name or a friends for a chance to be a part of the action. District assignments are in the senior court. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Poet Laureate

MHS is looking for a new Poet Laureate for 2016-17. Submit 5 original poems to Ms. Halsey in room 210.

Snack-Pack-to-Go

Do you stay after school for sports, extra help or clubs? Are you starving before you get home?
The cafeteria is introducing a snack pack to go... including a choice of crackers, fruit or veggie, cheese or sunflower seeds and juice. The cost is $1.75 unless you are a student with free or reduced benefits and do not purchase a breakfast.
Snack packs are only available for purchase before 10 AM.

MHS School Store

Attention all students and faculty! Black and white hoodie sweatshirts with the new MHS logo are now on sale in the school store. These are not available anywhere else, so get yours while supplies last. Sweatshirts are only $30.

TAKING THE SAT'S

Attention juniors and seniors: Are you taking the SAT test before March? If so, and you would like an SAT Study Guide book, please see Mrs. Grills in room 205. The books are free and will be available on a first come first serve basis.

EAR-BUDS/HEADPHONES

Attention all students: Ear-buds/earphones are only allowed in classrooms at the teacher's discretion. Earphones should not be visible in the hall during school hours, which means no ear-buds hanging off ears or shoulders. Large headphones/headsets are never allowed during school hours; 7:35 am to 2:05 pm.

LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY DISMISSAL forms for the 2nd semester are available in the main office.

LATE BUS

Any student participating in an after-school activity must obtain a late bus pass from their teacher or coach.
The office will not issue late bus passes.

MEAL ACCOUNTS

Mealpaymentsplus.com. May 2nd is the deadline to pay off any money owed on meal accounts. There will be no new charging allowed after this date.

MATH TUTORING will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in room 305.

PARKING PASSES

Parking pass applications are available in the main office. All students driving to school need a pass.

STUDENTS DRIVING TO SCHOOL

Students driving to school need to park in Lot A (front of the school). Parking is not permitted in the back or side lots. No exceptions to the rule. Effective immediately cars will be towed at the owner's expense if the rules are not followed.

MHS CLASS DUES: What is it?

MHS seniors are expected to pay $100 in Class Dues. This is a one-time fee.

The dues are used to cover the costs of the graduation cap and gown, graduation announcements, and Senior Class Outing.
When you make a payment, please make the checks payable to MHS, (write students name in the subject line) and have student being the check to their advisor.
If you have any further questions, contact the Class Advisor.


FRESHMAN (Class of 2019)

Class of 2019 Students: Your dues are $25 per year. Class dues should be brought to room 107.

Class of 2019 Cell Phone Case Fundraiser

Cell Phone Case Fundraiser: 2 School logos plus 100 stock case designs. Orders taken from April 25 – May 5, 2016 during lunch waves. Cases are $15.00.


SOPHMORES (Class of 2018)

Cleaning during spring break? Please consider donating items for our Tag Sale! On May 21st, the Class of 2018 will be hosting a Tag Sale & Carwash at Fair Oaks Community Center. The students are hoping to raise money to put toward class expenses. If you have any items that you would like to donate, please save them for our tag sale and drop them off in room 404 or room 103. As always, your support is truly appreciated!

CLASS DUES:
Junior Class dues of 25.00 will be collected by Mrs. Hickey in Room 320 until March 11th. Remember all students must pay a total of 100.00 in dues by senior year. See Mrs. Hickey or Mrs. Mathieu if you have any questions.

YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER:
Juniors~ your Yankee Candle Fundraiser packets are due on Friday, 4/1 to Mrs. Hickey in Room 320

PROM: Junior Prom - May 14, 2016

Any Junior wishing to bring a guest to the Junior Prom on May 14 (who is not currently a student at MHS), must pick up a permission form from Mrs. Hickey in Room 320. Guest tickets cannot be purchased until the signed forms are returned.

Departure and return times are dependent on the location of our meetings. Generally speaking we depart MHS at approximately 8:30 and return at approximately 1:30.

BOOK CLUB

Are you a fan of Tim Burton? Do you like to read and talk about interesting books?
MHS is partnering with Raymond Hill Library to hold its first book club field trip on April 28th.
Meet in room 324 after school today, 3/23. to get a copy of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
Be haunted with us before it becomes a Tim Burton movie in September. If you can't come to the meeting, see Mrs. Do in room 324 to reserve your copy. We have a limited number of books; so this is first come, first serve.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB

The environmental club is sponsoring a "Family Feud" night on Thursday, April 28th! We are looking for teams of four to compete. The registration fee is $3 per team member. General admission will be $1. We are trying to raise funds for people affected by the lead crisis in Flint Michigan. See Ms. Moriarty in room 401 for more information.


FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA

Attention all students! The Future Business Leaders of America are looking for students to join our Montville Chapter. If you have any interest in joining this unique club, which hosts fundraisers, attends local businesses and competes on a state and national level. See Mr. Zyrlis with any questions.

LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER - VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE NUTMEG BOOK

You know that book you read last summer? The MHS summer reading list included ten Nutmeg Award nominees and official voting takes place this week! If you read one or more of the nominees, please vote for your favorite! Vote from the library webpage, or use your phone to read the QR codes located on the posters around the school, or drop by the library for an old fashioned paper ballot. Voting ends 4/30, so please vote now!


MATH TUTORING/LAB

Math tutoring after school in room 305. Tutoring will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.


MONTVILLE ARTS COUNCIL

Montville Arts Council is seeking new members. We publish an online literary magazine. We throw great parties centered on poetry and the arts! We create Writing contests each month. But we are also looking for new ideas from new people. If you love the arts, this club is for you!

Fan Fiction/ Fan Art Contest, Deadline: May 1, 2016

Montville Arts Council has a new challenge to writers and artists - the Fan Fiction/ Fan Art contest. Posters with rules are displayed around the building. See Mrs. Perry or Mrs. Halsey for details.

Montville Arts Council presents – ARTS NIGHT 2016 – on May 12th at 6pm in the media center.

Our Music Department Mattress Sale Fundraiser Parent Meeting will take place on Monday, April 4th at 6:30 pm in the MHS Cafeteria. The purpose of this meeting is to communicate the details of this event. Immediately following the music boosters will hold there meeting. Anyone interested in learning more about our boosters program is invited to attend.

Sign-ups have begun for the MHS Student Government sponsored American Red Cross blood drive being held on Friday, March 4th. Stop by the table outside of the cafeteria during all lunch waves. Donors must be 17 years old to donate.
