Guiding Principles
Each Montville Student shall leave school as:
An Informed and Integrative Thinker
  • Applies knowledge and skills in and across English language arts, visual and performing arts, world languages, health and physical education, mathematics, science, social studies, and career preparation; and
  • Comprehends relationships among different modes of thought and methods associated with the traditional disciplines.
A Clear and Effective Communicator
    • Uses oral, written, visual, artistic, and technological modes of expression;
    • Reads, listens to and interprets messages from multiple sources; and
    • Uses English and at least one other language.
A Creative and Practical Problem Solver
    • Observes situations objectively to clearly and accurately define problems;
    • Frames questions and designs data collection and analysis strategies from all disciplines to answer those questions; and
    • Identifies patterns, trends, and relationships to solve problems and conflicts.
A Self-Directed and Life-Long Learner  
    • Creates career and education plans that reflect personal goals, interests and skills, and available resources; and
    • Demonstrates the capacity to undertake independent study.
A Responsible and Involved Citizen
    • Recognizes and demonstrates the importance of personal participation to the community;
    • Accepts responsibility for personal decisions and actions;
    • Recognizes and understands the diverse nature of society and the need for tolerance.
A Collaborative and Quality Worker
    • Assesses individual interests, aptitudes, skills, and values in relation to demands of the workplace; and
    • Demonstrates teamwork, reliability, flexibility, and concern for quality.
