The Montville school system supports
the American Library Association and the
Connecticut "Freedom to Read"
philosophies.
A general atmosphere of quiet will
be maintained to respect the rights of those engaged in quiet study or research.
Recreational reading is encouraged!
Borrowing Library Materials:
Students may check out up to five
items at a time for a four-week period. Magazines other than current issues
may be checked out for a two-week period. Some reference books may be checked
out overnight upon request.
Materials borrowed should be returned on time and in good
condition. Students should be sure to stamp materials with the date due slip to help remember when it is due. Abuse in borrowing materials will result in the loss of library privileges.
Student
Expectations:
Quiet behavior and courteous consideration of others
are required while using the Library Media Center. A warning will be given
in cases of unacceptable behavior. Continuation of such behavior or insubordination
will result in loss of library privileges. All standard school regulations
will be enforced. Cell phones, food and drink are NOT allowed.
- Arrive on time and sign in immediately upon arrival
- Sign in and out whenever entering the library or leaving the library for any reason before the end of the block.
- Bring necessary materials with you (paper, pens, and books…)
- Refrain from socializing with other students using the library
- Remain seated until the end of block bell rings
Passes:
A subject pass is required for independent library use during all blocks, including lunch. Plan ahead! Obtain a subject pass from a classroom teacher or the Library Media Center staff. Subject passes require the student to specifically state what work he or she is planning to do in the library.
A Courtesy Pass is available by application to students who use the library in a responsible manner on a regular basis. This pass entitles the student to use all library resources without first obtaining a subject pass. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain permission from the classroom teacher to use this pass. Any violations will result in the void this pass and loss of library privileges.
Computer/Internet Use:
Students are required to return an acceptable use form before they are issued an account. Students are expected to respect the equipment and are not allowed to sign in using anyone else's name.
All students are required to display a subject pass or a courtesy pass to use a computer for independent work during all blocks, including lunch. Obtain a subject pass from the classroom teacher who assigned your work or the Library Media Center staff.
Abide by all rules for computer use.
- Display pass on computer where it can be viewed easily.
- Use internet for school work only: NO email, games, chat, IM, shopping or social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, etc.)
Appropriate use of the computer includes:
Typing class assignments
Designing PowerPoint presentations or web pages for class
Researching a class assignment
Career and college searching
NOT ALLOWED:
- Games and gaming
- downloading programs, ring tones
- email
- chat
- IM (instant messaging)
- shopping
- social networking sites (My Space, Facebook, etc.)
