The Child Development classes are dedicated to preparing future parents for the challenges, responsibilities, and joys of parenting. In addition, they focus on the preparation of students for careers working with children. Classes highlight the developmental abilities of children and the skills required to meet their needs. PARENTING emphasizes responsibilities and challenges facing parents in today's world. The influences of heredity and environment on development are considered as is prenatal development and childbirth. BIRTH TO THREE introduces physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of infants and toddlers and emphasizes the importance of the caregiver during these most formative years. PRESCHOOL offers students a hands-on learning experience with children from three to five years of age through participation in the "Playschool". THE OLDER CHILD reviews issues of significance to elementary age children including health and nutrition, moral development, and literacy. TEACHING THE YOUNG CHILD is designed for students pursuing a career with children. The class emphasizes theory, curriculum, and organization of early childhood programs. |
