To be eligible to play baseball at Montville High School in 2005 each student-athlete must comply with the following rules and regulations:
- Facial hair including goatees, moustaches, and sideburns will be kept neat and trim (length under a two guard on clippers) throughout the season. No beards will be allowed.
- Sideburns may not come down past the bottom of the earlobe.
- Hair may come over the top of the ear, but no lower than 1/4 the way down on the ear itself and not over the bottom of the shirt collar. If length is in question (close to being unacceptable), hair will be required to be "put up" during all baseball activities.
- Your game uniform will be kept clean and neat throughout the season.
- At no time during pregame or games will a player's shirt bottom be untucked from a player's uniform.
- No shorts will permitted during an outside practice. They may be allowed during some inside practices.
- No jewelry will be worn during games.
- A baseball hat will be required during all inside and outside practices.
There will be no deviations from the above. Team captains ( if elected ) or upperclassman will be responsible to remind anyone who needs reminding. If the coaching staff has to remind anyone about their appearance, you will be required to run three miles (one mile each day under 7:15). They will be run on consecutive practice days.
TRAINING RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Team members will be required to refrain from any drinking or possession of alcoholic beverages during the baseball season. This in no way is meant to encourage you to consume alcohol outside of the baseball season. The consummation or possession of alcohol will result in an immediate suspension from the team and possible expulsion.
- Team members will be required to refrain from partaking of drugs that are not prescribed by a physician. Possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia will result in an immediate suspension from the team and possible expulsion.
- The use of tobacco products (i.e. cigarettes, dip and chew) is prohibited on school grounds. This includes any bus rides, practices, games, extracurricular activities, and the like. Anyone found with these products may be subjected to expulsion.
- Team members will be asked to completely refrain from the use of profanity during all games, practices, bus trips, and times in which you are in the presence of coaches and school personnel. A reasonable time frame of adjustment will be permitted for those who have built up any bad habits.
1st offense - warning
2nd offense - equipment duty for two days
3rd offense - " " " five days
4th offense - two one mile runs under 8:30
All swearing offenses are dependent on circumstances and severity. Profanity directed in a disrespectful manner will be handled separately.
ACADEMICS
- Student/athletes are required to maintain a positive academic standing in the classroom. If at any time a member of the team approaches a level where their eligibility might be revoked that individual will be dismissed from the team until his academic standing is solidified.
- No team member will use as an excuse to miss practice; any class assignment or exam preparation unless pre-approved by the coaching staff one school day in advance. You will prepare yourself for assignments and exams over the entire quarter, not on the last day.
- No tutors or assistance will be provided to any baseball player if it is found that their academic difficulties are the result of behavior problems in the classroom.
BEHAVIOR
- All team members are required to represent the team to the best of their abilities. This includes on and off the field.
- Malicious throwing of equipment during both games and practices is unacceptable.
- School suspensions, in or out, during the baseball season results in exclusion from all baseball activities. Any two suspensions during the same year may result in expulsion. In these circumstances the player must meet with the BASEBALL COUNCIL before being allowed to participate.
- If at any time during the baseball season a team member's behavior is deemed inappropriate by the coaching staff that person will be subjected to disciplinary action. This action may include but not limited to; field maintenance, extra running, equipment duty, ultimately game suspension(s) or expulsion.
Inappropriate behavior will be in no way tolerated. If a team member is persistent in not being able to control his behavior, he will be asked to remove himself from practice that day and not return until the BASEBALL COUNCIL is satisfied that the problem has been corrected. Behavior problems that occur outside of the team (i.e. at school or the community) will also be addressed according to the severity of the act.
PRACTICE AND GAME SCHEDULES
- Practice and pregame schedules will be individually adjusted in order to insure that everyone has ample time to be present.
- If for some reason you will be absent or tardy for practice, you will personally talk by phone or in person with one of the coaches prior to the scheduled time of that practice, preferably well in advance so that adjustments can be made in the schedule. If a team member's name appears on the absent list, it will be understood that he will not be participating in that day's game or practice.
- Athletes who are not in school by 11:00 on a practice or game day will not be allowed to participate in practice or the game.
- There will be no excuses accepted for being late unless we are notified in advance. If a team member must see the trainer for treatment, this will be done prior to practice and it will not interfere with him being on the field on time. Exceptions to this will be made if notified in advance.
- No player will leave a practice session or game early without prior approval of one of the coaches.
- Any team member that misses a practice without an approved excuse will not start the following game. If a team member misses two practices prior to a game, he will attend the game in uniform but not be allowed to compete. If for any reason a team member misses more than two consecutive practices that team member will not be allowed to return to the team without meeting with the BASEBALL COUNCIL.
- No team member is allowed to practice or play for any other baseball team during the high school baseball season. This includes "tryouts" or "workouts" for professional teams. This is a CIAC rule. The team penalty for this is exclusion from the CIAC Tournament. The MHS baseball program should be the athlete's priority. Any team member found breaking this rule will be subjected to disciplinary action.
- All team members will take the bus ride back to MHS after away games. This is a school rule. Special circumstances will allow for parental rides home. This will require a note or phone call to our athletic director one day before the scheduled contest.
LOCKER ROOM PROCEDURE
- Team members will be expected to keep their locker room in the best possible condition. All trash will be properly disposed of.
- There will absolutely be no horseplay, fooling around or rough housing in the locker room.
Team captains (if elected) or upperclassman will be responsible for the monitoring of locker room behavior. If at anytime the coaching staff must intercede in any locker room matter, the parties involved will be required to run the three mile run as explained earlier.
UNIFORMS
- Players must return all issued uniform parts and equipment within five days of the completion of the season. Failure to do this will result in the student-athlete's exclusion from any other MHS extracurricular activities until the missing items are returned or paid for.
