Eugene M. Mangini HVAC Scholarship

The Eugene M. Mangini HVAC Scholarship is the creation of the Independent Connecticut Petroleum Association Education Foundation, a non-profit 501 [c] [3] educational vocational technical school certified by the State of Connecticut's Board of Higher Education.

Independent Connecticut Petroleum Association Education Foundation, Inc. admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the Foundation. The Foundation shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.

Eligibility for the scholarship is based on only those who are about to graduate from high school or those who have graduated from high school within the previous 90 days.
Scholarship applications are reviewed by the ITEC School Advisory Board [SAB].

Scholarship applications, whether this online version or the brochure version, must be completed in full and then the applicant must attach his or her high school transcript so that the SAB may review the applicant's academic performance as well as the information required in the application.

The ITEC SAB will make determinations of eligibility and criteria each quarter and decide how many, if any, scholarships will be awarded during that quarter. Successful applicants will be notified by email and regular mail if they have been selected for the scholarship.

If the student applicant declines the scholarship the offer of the scholarship is revoked.
The Eugene M. Mangini HVAC Scholarship is for 50% of the cost of tuition and books to attend the ITEC B-license program on a full-time basis.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs
Students may apply beginning June 1 - October 15,

Founded in 1947, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans continues to fulfill its mission of honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals in our society who have succeeded in spite of adversity and of encouraging young people to pursue their dreams through higher education.

The Association brings the “Horatio Alger Heroes” of today together with those of tomorrow by bestowing the Horatio Alger Award each year and by awarding more than $5 million annually in college scholarships to young people. Horatio Alger Scholars have faced challenges and realize that a college education is the avenue to a better future. The Association also provides its scholarship recipients with financial aid counseling, and internship and job placement assistance.

Horatio Alger National Scholarship

As one of the nation's largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is the only major scholarship effort that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many aid programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger program also seeks students who have a commitment to use their college degrees in service to others.

The National Scholarship Program is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. National Scholars receive an all expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. during the Spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be enrolled full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the Fall following graduation;
  • have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution);
  • critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided);
  • involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
  • demonstrate academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 2.0); and
  • be a citizen of the United States or be in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen.

The Horatio Alger National Scholarship Finalist Program provides financial assistance to students who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education.

The National Scholarship Finalist Program annually awards 150 college scholarships of $1,000 to eligible students in those states where the Association does not offer a state scholarship program.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Finalist Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

$1,900 will be awarded to the New Miss CT Teen USA!
the 2010 Miss CT Teen USA pageant will be held at the Marriott Hotel and Resort in Farmington, on November 28 & 29, 2009.

Contestants must be single, (never married nor have given birth to a child,) a United States citizen and at least a six-month resident of Connecticut. They also must be at least 14 years of age and under 19 years of age to qualify.

The New London NAACP Scholarship
Deadline: June 1, 2005 (as of 4/29/09 have not received and update)

The New London Branch of the NAACP is in the process of selecting candidates for scholarships. The scholarship is based on the student’s scholastic ability, intellectual potential and personal integrity. The applicants are not required to demonstrate a financial need or specify other sources of financial aid.

The $250.00 college scholarships will be presented at their annual Freedom Fund Banquet on June 24, 2005, at the Groton Inn and Suites, Groton, CT.

All Applicants must submit a 250-word essay on one of the topics listed.

The completed essay must be sent to the Shirley J. Gillis, President, NAACP, PO Box 987, New London, CT 06320 and postmarked by June 1, 2005. It is very important that candidates include the topic, title, their name, school, address and telephone number. Winners will be notified by June 10, 2005.

Jointly sponsored by The American Legion Department of Connecticut and the State of Connecticut Department of Public Safety, Division of State Police, the program is a law enforcement symposium for high school students completing their junior year in 2009 and who are interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement.

In addition to providing insight into the expectations, duties and training required of police officers, the program teaches life-skills such as how to establish and attain realistic goals and how to make good decisions.

This week at the academy is a rigorous one with many physical demands. Students need to be in good physical condition to participate in this program.

The Thomas P. Quinn Scholarship Fund
Deadline: June 15, Annually

Awards can be in the range of $2,000 - $4, 000. Please don't hesitate to apply.

  1. Awards are made to any resident of New London County who will be attending a four year college in the next academic year.
  2. The deadline for filing the application is June 15 for an award covering the academic year beginning the following September. Applications MUST be mailed on or before the deadline and MUST be POSTMARKED by the deadline date.
  3. You must request your high school to mail a transcript of your record, including class standing, and a complete report of College Board Test scores (Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Achievement Test) to the Trustee. Also, if you are at a higher level, please have an official college transcript sent to the Trustee. The preferred transcript is for a full year; however, if not available until after June 15th, request a transcript for grades to date. Unless prior arrangements are made with the Trustee, any applications without an official transcript, as of June 15th, will be considered in incomplete.
  4. The student must keep the Trustee informed of his/her address at all times.
  5. Each application will be reviewed on the basis of academics, recommendations and extra-curricular activities.
  6. Four written references are required only with the initial application; none required for repeat applications. All correspondence, references, official transcripts, and application should be sent to The Thomas P. Quinn Scholarship Fund.
    • A personal statement expressing your personal and professional goals and your assessment of the ways in which your high school, college, and community experience have played or will play a role in achieving those goals.

United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT
MITE SUMMER PROGRAM

Is looking for college-bound juniors who are interested in attending an all expense one-week summer program here at the Coast Guard Academy. The program will introduce students to not only life as a cadet here at the Academy, but also the Coast Guard, and all our technical majors. They'll also have the opportunity to participate in some engineering projects throughout the week.

We are looking for juniors who have scored a minimum of 50 on both their Math and Verbal of their PSAT. Additionally, we will need the students to fill out the application found at:
http://www.cga.edu/admissions/summerprogramsforjuniors/mite.htm, as well as a transcript, PSAT or SAT scores, resume of activities, and a letter of recommendation. Due to time constraints, for the letter of recommendation, if you have more than one student who is interested in applying, you can attach one recommendation for all the students with your endorsement.

Summer Sea Session

This is a five-day experience in coastal oceanography and marine biology. The schedule for each five-day program emphasizes coastal oceanography and marine biology and includes labs, lectures and field trips aboard Academy-owned vessels.

Students will be introduced to principles of biology, chemistry, geology and physics as they relate to the marine environment.

This program is designed for high school students who have completed at least one year of high school, have an interest in working on the ocean or in marine science as a career choice and have at least a “B” (3.0 or 80%) overall average.

A certificate will be awarded to those completing the program.
Total program cost is $500, including tuition, room and board. Return application with $150 registration deposit as soon as possible.

Boating on the Coast of Maine

This program is a five-day experience in nautical science that is intended for students who have completed at least one year of high school but have not yet graduated. The schedule for the five-day program includes classroom and field instruction in introductory navigation, seamanship, basic boating safety, meteorology, sailing and power boating.

It is an intensive program for students who have an interest in nautical activities, and students should expect to spend up to 14 hours per day in program activities. A Certificate will be awarded to those completing the program.

We are very pleased to announce that The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Trust Fund will again award scholarships to deserving high school seniors who will graduate in 2010.

The scholarships are earmarked for students of color, preferably African-Americans, who reside in and attend schools in New London County and who will pursue a post secondary level education.

The scholarship is open to juniors in high school whose year of graduation is 2010.

This scholarship is an annual award in the amount of $20,000, and the number of scholarships granted yearly is determined by its board of trustees.

All Southeastern Connecticut African-American students who are in their junior year of high school are eligible to apply. The students must exemplify Dr. King's spirit by living their lives in pursuit of Dr. King's goals.

The qualifications are:

o Achievement in the community
o Academics
o Citizenship
o written response to an essay question
o and the need for financial assistance.

ESSAY:

Dr. King contributed to American social justice more than any other individual in the Twentieth Century. How did Dr. King's contributions affect your life in terms of the ways in which you will contribute to the realization of his dream?

High school seniors, college or graduate students who have an immediate or retired member of their family working for a New England Newspaper Advertising Executives Association member newspaper (parent, aunt, uncle, sibling, grandparent, spouse, current employees) may apply for the NENAEA scholarships.

There will be three $2,000 scholarships awarded. Applications must be postmarked no later than June 30. The winners of the scholarships will be notified by Aug. 1 and announced in October at the NENAEA Fall Convention.
Past recipients of this scholarship have met the very highest standards of excellence. There is no restriction on college major.

Please note that there are several required documents that all applicants must submit for their application to be processed. Failure to include any document automatically disqualifies the applicant.
