Who is Dale E. Fridell?

Dale Fridell was the grandfather of StraightForward Media CEO Josh Barsch. Dale was born in 1918 on a family farm in Denton, Kansas. He had seven brothers and sisters and grew knowing that for the family to run smoothly, everyone had to do their part. He carried that ethic with him his entire life, recognizing that when each of us makes a contribution, whether in a family, the work place or the world, all of us benefit.

Dale served his country for seven years during World War II. College wasn’t an option for him, but he would have done well at it, as he did in all things he set his mind to. He was married and raised a family and contributed to society in a number of ways; running a service station/café with his wife, participating in Boy Scouts with his son and serving in many community organizations with his family and friends.

Dale was a man who didn’t have to be asked to help out; he was always one step ahead in offering his assistance. In his later years, he developed Alzheimer’s disease, but he fought to retain his dignity until he couldn’t fight any longer. He left his wife, children and grandchildren a legacy of honesty, loving and kindness. It's because of this that the Dale E. Fridell Scholarship was created in his memory.

Phillips Foundation
Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program

Deadline: 1/16/07

In the summer of 1999, The Phillips Foundation announced the establishment of its annual Future Leaders Program (renamed the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Program effective academic year 2006-07) featuring renewable scholarships to college undergraduates who demonstrate leadership on behalf of the cause of freedom, American values and constitutional principles. The program pays tribute to President Ronald Reagan in recognition of his achievements on behalf of freedom, American values and constitutional principles, his optimism about America's future, and his faith in America's youth to protect and enhance the legacy of liberty entrusted to them. The Foundation awarded $259,000 in new and renewed scholarships in academic year 2004-2005 in amounts of $7,500, $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000.

The Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program seeks to recognize outstanding young people who are promoting American values on college campuses. The scholarships are designed to alleviate the financial burdens associated with higher education, permitting the winners to devote more time both to pursuing their academic goals and advancing their leadership initiatives.

Applications are now being accepted for the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program for academic year 2007-08. They must be postmarked by January 16, 2007. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time in good standing at any accredited, four-year degree-granting institution in the United States or its territories. Applicants may apply for the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program during their sophomore year. Winners will receive the scholarship for their junior year and may apply for renewal before their senior year. While sophomores are preferred, juniors may also apply for a one-time award for the senior year. Students attending two-year schools may apply as juniors for a one-time scholarship for the senior year upon transfer to a four-year institution. Applicants will be asked to submit an essay of 500 to 750 words describing their backgrounds, career objectives and scope of participation in leadership activities promoting freedom, American values and constitutional principles. Although the program is merit-based rather than need-based, The Phillips Foundation will take into consideration evidence of financial need.
