| Academic Decathlon Advisor: Mr. Richmond & Mr. Hayes Room 318 |
The Academic Decathlon team is a nine-member team
that competes in ten different academic categories ranging from art
history to anatomy, and music to economics. They meet weekly studying
a different thematic unit each year in preparation for the state championships
on the UCONN campus in March. |

Students interested in the pursuit of artistic endeavors
meet in the Art room on most Tuesdays from 2:15 – 3:00. Any and
every art media can be explored. Group Discussions and personalized
critiques can help students prepare a portfolio for college application.
Our main goal is to be creative and have fun together! |

| Bible Club Advisor: |
The MHS student-led Bible Study started off its
second year examining the book of John in the New Testament. A core
group of curious, faithful students share their faith at weekly meetings.
They read and discuss the Bible, spend time in prayer, and bring their
own experiences with them to benefit the group. |

| Biking Club Advisor: Mrs. Glover |
The Biking Club is designed to increase fitness
through mountain biking at local trails and state parks with a few eekend
day trips planned to races or recreational mountain trail riding in
New England. Students must have working mountain bike, helmet, and parent
permission form. |

| Chess & Card Club Advisor: |
The purpose of the Chess and Card Club
is to become more informed about these games, to play and teach others
to play, and to learn gamesmanship. |

Students will write articles, take photos, and create the layout. Articles will include news, features, profiles, and reviews. | |
| Culinary Club/FCCLA (Family, Career & Community Leaders of America) Advisor: Dr. Greenstein Life Management Department |
The Culinary Club’s purpose is to expand leadership
potential and develop life skills necessary in families, communities
and the workplace. The culinary club prepares food as a service for
school and community activities including open houses, meetings, and
special events. Their goal is learning and growing through service to
others. |

Drama Club / Thespian Troupe
|
The Drama Club is a group of students who participate in two major performances each year. The fall show is traditionally a play and the spring show is a musical. Students have the opportunity to act, sing, dance, work on sets, props, lights, sound, makeup, costumes and the business side of the theater. The shows are cast by audition and other positions are selected by signing up to work on the different aspects of theater. Thespian Troupe #3083 is an international society for students of the theater. To be inducted a student must have worked on at least two different productions and have participated in two different aspects of theater. Numerous awards can be achieved after induction. |

The Environmental Club is a group of students that will work towards improving the environment, ending waste and helping to clean up our corner of the planet. Students will meet to discuss and implement ways to recycle and save energy. The main focus is to teach our community the dangers of global warming and the importance of conservation. Let’s help Montville High School go green! | |
| FBLA |
FBLA is made up of students who are
interested in business or business related fields. Their mission is
to encourage and promote a partnership with local businesses while giving
MHS students hands on experience in the field. The organization has
attended numerous leadership conferences and state competitions as well
as made a presence at Career Expos and Chamber of Commerce meetings.
The club has served the community by raising money for March of Dimes,
giving Christmas gifts to less fortunate children, participating in
Read across America, and offering free baby sitting services to faculty.
This year members hope to attend the National Leadership Conference
in Nashville, Tennessee. |

| Fit for Life |
Fit for Life is a club, which encourages students to
live an active life! This after school activity introduces students
to a variety of enjoyable group activities (aerobics, Yoga, team games)
and discourages sedentary lifestyle. Students will learn about proper
diet, fitness and nutrition. |

| GSA/ Gay Straight Alliance Advisors: Mrs. Macri Counseling Office |
The Montville High School Gay/Straight Alliance
is dedicated to promoting equal opportunity and treatment for the entire
school population. They are committed to the practices of tolerance
and diversity among all peoples. This year, the MHS-GSA is networking
with area high school GSAs and we will participate in the annual True
Colors Conference. Membership is open to all students and staff at MHS.
Parent and community participation is also welcome. |

This group produces a literary magazine that encourages writing and drawing from all students and faculty. Students organize, arrange and design and the magazine. Images has been recognized and ranked “Excellent” by the National Council of teachers for the past three years. The Montville Asian American Club is a service orientated club that has three objectives:
The club will meet once a month during the school calendar year. The club will have elected officers, a teacher sponsor, a community representative from the Montville Town Council and a community liaison from the Asian Community. The club will develop an outreach with other Asian American Clubs in Connecticut. The main volunteer activities will be with the Montville Senior Center, the Montville Youth Center, the Richard Brown Senior Facility and the Mohegan Tribal Education Facility. Membership is open to all Montville High School students interested in promoting good will through community service. |

| Marching Band Advisor: Ms. Crawford |
The marching band is a group in which wind players, percussionists and color guard members come together to create a field show during the fall season of the school year. Students perform their show during half time at home football games and marching band competitions throughout the state. The MHS Marching Band is also the public face of the music department, performing in community parades throughout the year. | |
| Math Team Advisor: Mr. Kopij Room 107 |
The math team at MHS competes against 12 other schools
in New London County. Students have an opportunity to compete individually
at each meet by participating in three out of five rounds and they compete
together in a final round called a team round. In April trophies are
given to the top 3 schools and five individual trophies are given to
the top 5 scorers in the league. Schools that finish in the upper half
of their league go on to compete at the state meet. |

| National Honor Society |
The Montville chapter of the National Honor Society
recognizes those students who have excelled in academics, leadership,
character and service. Juniors and seniors who have been selected for
the NHS are inducted in a ceremony each May. The NHS strives to create
a positive school environment and to promote school spirit by organizing
service projects, providing peer tutoring, assisting members of the
school faculty, and assuming leadership roles in our school community.

The Outing Club takes trips and plans activities
for the outdoors. All students are welcome regardless of skill level.
Skiing is the most popular activity and the club participates in approximately
3-4 ski trips a year. |

| Peer Mediation Advisors: Mr. Contos & Mr. Douglas Counseling Office |
The Peer Mediation Team is composed of a dedicated
group of student volunteers who are committed to helping reduce the
frequency and severity of conflicts which arise between students at
MHS. The mediators have been thoroughly trained in a three day workshop.
The mediators skillfully guide their disputing peers through a process
involving self-reflection, active listening, risk taking and compromise
to reach an agreement in which both parties sign a contract to uphold.

share and inspire fellow readers and lovers of poetry. Everyone is welcome. |

| Rifle Club |
The Montville High School Rifle Club
was formed to teach firearms safety and train students in the Olympic
sport of competitive rifle marksmanship. The club meets twice weekly
at the Quaker Hill Rod and Gun Club and competes against other schools
in a statewide league. |

The goal of the French Honor Society is to provide an opportunity to recognize outstanding scholarship in the study of French language. Membership provides a vehicle for focusing activities around French language and literature. | |
| Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica Advisor: Mrs. Clifford Room 408 |
The goal of the Spanish Honor Society is to recognize high student achievement in Spanish and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies. A regularly enrolled student must maintain an honor average in the study of Spanish for a minimum of three semesters and continue until graduation. | |
| TSA (Technology Students Association) Advisor: Mr. Couture Room 806 Technology Department |
TSA is the only student organization devoted exclusively
to the needs of technology and is open to all interested students who
have had or are taking any technology courses. Students apply their
knowledge develop leadership skills while they participate in TE experiences,
State National Competitions and School Community service projects. |

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international
music honor society for high school students and is a program of MENC:
The National Association for Music Education. It is designed to recognize
students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for
their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students
to excel at music and leadership. Juniors and seniors are nominated
to perform in an auditioned recital, and selected students are inducted
at a ceremony held in the fall. |

The Winter Guard is an extension of the marching band season for color guard members. Students learn a choreographed show incorporating dance, flag and weapon work and compete throughout the winter season of the school year. | |
| Yearbook Advisor: Mr. Blanchette Room 305 Technology Department |
The yearbook club provides students with an opportunity
to get involved with the editing and layout of the yearbook. Students
learn photography, layout, advertising and the publishing skills associated
with desktop publishing and graphic design. This club is open to all
students. |

| YES Club (Young Educators Society) Advisor: Mr. Rousseau |
The YES Club is designed for students who are interested in learning about what teachers do. Club members go on field trips to colleges, universities, and other schools, and participate in the statewide Future Educators of America convention and inter-district pod discussions about current educational issues. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other prospective teachers, learn about teaching and open doors in the profession. |
