Course Outline and Grading Policy
Welcome to Personal Finance! I am looking forward
to the semester that we will spend together. I will do my very best
to accommodate you and your needs. A POSITIVE ATTITUDE is all we need
to get started.
Social Expectations for the STUDENT:

responsibilities in a community

and cultural differences

Academic Expectations for the STUDENT:
• Write effectively for a variety of purposes
• Evaluate, interpret and utilize data
• Demonstrate research skills
• Demonstrate an understanding of various forms of technology
PERSONAL FINANCE
This course is designed to offer students the analytical tools to
make wise economic decisions related to their own personal financial
affairs. The students will evaluate and interpret financial data,
as it relates to:
1) The Stock Market and Investment Planning
2) Personal Banking
3) Federal and State Income Taxes
4) Consumer Credit
Each unit will be assessed using a variety of methods, which may include
real-world simulations, short quizzes, oral and written assignments,
independent and group participation, and homework. Assignments are
due on the dates specified in advance by the teacher.
Your GRADE is determined using the following
criteria:
30% SIMULATION PROJECTS (Stock
Market Game Portfolio, Checking Account, SMG Oral Presentation, Income
Tax Preparation, Credit Card Poster)
30% QUIZZES & TESTS (Short Answer,
Multiple Choice, Matching)
20% WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS (Business
Article Critique, Co. Research, Shopping for Saving Account)
10% HOMEWORK/SMALL IN-CLASS WORK (Read
& Respond, Internet Research)
10% CLASS PARTICIPATION (Being
prepared for class, using businesslike manners and attitude, listening
carefully and following directions, care and respect of equipment)
When you are absent, all work
must be made up within 2 days following your absence. It is YOUR responsibility
to obtain the assigned work.
