Course Outline and Grading Policy

Course Description
This course is designed to give students reinforcement of the computer instruction received at the middle school. This reinforcement will prepare students to perform on computers at a high school level and enable them to deal more efficiently with future assignments. Emphasis will include proper keying methods and formatting of word processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentation techniques. Microsoft Office software will be used.

Course Outline

Microsoft Word: Creating, editing, and formatting documents, moving and copying text, spell and grammar check, page numbering, headers/footers, footnotes, endnotes, search/replace, tables, sorting text, margins, line spacing and borders.

Microsoft Excel: Creating, editing, and formatting spreadsheets, plan and design a spreadsheet, create/display formulas, spell-check, find/replace, cut, copy and paste, tab, renaming worksheets, autofill, deleting and inserting cells, rows, and columns, applying text and cell attributes, name cells, ranges, and constants, create and modify charts.

Microsoft PowerPoint: Creating, editing, and formatting presentations, creation of slides, slide shows, transitions, templates and insertion of images.

Extra Help
Extra help will be offered during study hall, before school, or after school by appointment only.

Assessment
A variety of assessment strategies will be used including: quizzes, tests, projects involving business documents, keyboarding drills and timings, presentations, etc. When necessary, a rubric will be given in advance. Your grade will be assessed on the following criteria:

    Projects/Computer Work
    50%
    Quizzes/Tests
    30%
    Homework/In-Class Worksheets
    10%
    Class Participation
    10%

Assignments are due on the dates specified in advance by the teacher.

When you are absent, all work must be made up within 2 days following your absence. It is YOUR responsibility to obtain the assigned work.
