2009-2010 Goals

1.    Conduct a successful search for a new superintendent of schools and select a candidate that is a "good fit" for Montville.
 
2.    Raise standards/opportunities for all students
  • Provide students with a rigorous and relevant PK-12 core curriculum that reflects 21st century skills
  • Intensify online learning opportunities, including credit recovery and other advanced online opportunities
  • Measure student achievement with local, state, and national assessments that inform instruction and evaluate students' knowledge, skills, and performance
  • Use student assessment data regularly through PLC (professional learning communities) groups for on-going accountability analysis of our educational process and for district and classroom goal setting
  • Support interventions/programs necessary to improve the instructional core
  • Support extracurricular activities to provide a well-rounded educational experience
  • Support a strong professional development program to improve upon individual skills and system efficacy in order to aid staff members in their efforts to help students meet high academic standards
 
3.    Provide support to the administrative teams to enhance student achievement
 
4.    Maintain an amicable and fair environment with our collective bargaining groups and all other employee groups
 
5.    Review budget, resources, and grants to maximize effectiveness of educational services
  • Continue efforts to increase grant funding where available and appropriate
  • Continue implementation of energy usage and potential conservation (fuel, electric, etc.)
  •  Continue to implement green practices utilizing the "Four Pillars" framework that integrates efforts to reduce schools' ecological footprints, make school environments healthier, and get the whole community thinking about solutions to the problems we face
  • Continue to be fiscally responsible in the operation of the school budget, while maintaining district/student needs
6.    Continue advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Continue to invite local legislators to Board meetings and follow up during the legislative session
  • Host an area meeting with Congressional representatives
  •  Maintain statewide presence in CABE

 
7.    Maintain communication with the public on educational needs
  • Continue to upgrade and expand the Montville Public Schools’ website
  • Expand usage of Channel 22 to promote the schools and their programs
  • Offer a budget forum at each school and the Senior Center
 
8.    Strengthen and improve interagency coordination (respectful and trusting relationships)
  • Continue outreach to the Town Government
  • Expand greater school community outreach to other community agencies, including daycare providers
  • Expand partnerships with other municipal agencies in seeking funding from government and private sources
  • Continue to support the Montville Education Foundation
