Grade 5

Everything I've learned, I've learned in the fifth grade.

Fifth Grade Mission Statement

Grade five is an exciting experience in each child's elementary school career. Students gain proficiency in core academic areas, with an increasing level of independence. Problem solving, research, and self-reflection are used to increase student understanding of the fifth grade curriculum. Students gain the interpersonal, organizational and academic skills that will enable them to successfully transition to the middle school.

Instructional Program

The emphasis of instruction is to prepare students for the transition into middle school. Children are taught to become more responsible, organized students, who advocate for themselves. Increased academic responsibilities include independent reading with improved comprehension proficiency, greater elaboration on written assignments and applying problem solving strategies in mathematics. DARE is a program which is implemented in the fifth grade that supports the health and safety and peer interaction instruction the students received in the fourth grade. The preteen years are an exciting time for physical and emotional growth.
