The Montville Alternative High School Philosophy

Montville Alternative High School is an option for students from Montville who have not been successful in the traditional high school or who are considered to be "high risk". The purpose of the program is to provide a flexible environment to focus on academics while guiding students to become accountable for their behavior.

The Montville Alternative High School will provide:

* An educational environment that is safe, supportive, nurturing and highly conducive to learning.

* A general high school curriculum which meets the needs and goals of the students along with opportunities for students to explore their various areas of interest.

* School wide enrichment activities.

* A network of support services to address emotional and social needs and employment seeking skills of the students.

* An environment facilitating student transitions from entry to graduation focusing on school to career activities.

* Opportunities for enrichment reflecting cultural diversity.

* Opportunities as appropriate, for input in the decision making process from all sectors of the school community.

* Recognition of student achievement.

* Opportunities for home/school partnership through an active parent advisory group.

* An ongoing professional development program for the staff.

* An environment encouraging faculty interaction and intercurricular program development.

* Flexible scheduling.

* A school environment in which students are respected and protected.
