BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PROGRAM/CRISIS INTERVENTION
The school wide behavior management program currently in place is as follows;
when a behavior that interferes with the learning of others is demonstrated,
a reminder of classroom expectations is given. If problem behavior continues
and/or increases, a time-out will be given with the Behavior Intervention Specialist.
After a period of processing, permission will be given to return to class. If
a student is disruptive, unresponsive to interventions, and/or posing a threat
to him/herself or others, parent or Montville Police will be notified to remove
student from school if necessary. An additional intervention, FOCUS*, may be
scheduled.
Palmer Academy behavior intervention specialist assists students in developing
insight and a solution to the conflict. The goal is to have students take responsibility
for their behavior, develop problem solving strategies and make productive use
of voluntary time out.
