Course Description: American Sign Language I (ASL I) is the first level of two offered at Montville Alternative High School. ASL is the manual language used by the Deaf Community. Focus in Level I is on receptive and expressive fingerspelling and signing. Students are introduced to the basic vocabulary, grammar, and language structures of ASL. Cultural aspects of Deafness are integrated into this course.
